Sporty luxury defines every aspect of the Corum Admiral's Cup Chronograph 48 Grand Prix watch. The 48mm case is crafted from titanium, and naturally displays the signature 12-sided profile that makes the Admiral's Cup an instantly recognizable symbol in the diverse landscape of fine Swiss watches. Covered in black rubber, the bezel shares the same 12-sided design as the case, a detail that is also displayed in the thick and slightly convex sapphire crystal. Through this perfectly clear material is a handsome dial with vertical Cotes de Geneve patterns in the recessed center, deep black chronograph subdials with partial orange indexes, and a raised peripheral area with orange hash marks. The sharply concave rehaut displays the famous nautical pennants in a black and white color scheme. The bold theme of sporty orange also presents itself on the two large Arabic minute figures, the "Limited Edition"designation and the centralized chronograph seconds hand with the Corum key insignia as a counterweight. While a screw-down winding crown is perhaps expected for a watch that is water resistant to 300 meters, the large and handsomely integrated chronograph pushers are similarly reinforced and feature locking protectors to prevent accidental operation.
Beneath the rubber accented titanium back with its Grand Prix Corum 2010 insignia is the self-winding CO753 automatic movement. It is based upon the tried-and-tested Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement, and presents a small seconds display, a 30-minute elapsed time counter, and a central chronograph hand. A date display is also featured, which can be easily advanced when necessary through the screw-down crown. A central rotor decorated with the Corum insignia efficiently feeds wrist-transmitted energy to the mainspring barrel which holds a maximum power reserve of approximately 48 hours. Corum submits each of these chronograph movements to the Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres (COSC), where exacting rate precision is verified over a 15 day testing period.
An attractive compliment to the materials and colors of the case and dial is the finely-molded leather strap. Such a memorable watch won't be cheap. The price tag of the watch is $8,770 (USD). This watch looks great.
